Check each EasyEDA BOM line against its datasheet

Updated 2026-10-11

Passives are where BOM reviews slip. Resistor and capacitor lines are easy to wave through on value alone, but ratings, temperature characteristics and tolerance live in the manufacturer's spec sheet. Give the BOM as is to an AI connected to PartsPlan, and it can check each line against that manufacturer's original datasheet, citing the page.

Hand over the BOM

Attach the BOM file you exported from EasyEDA to the chat, or paste the table as is. CSV is the easy choice (to attach XLSX in Claude, code execution and file creation must be turned on in settings). Keep the manufacturer and part number columns: for parts that several makers produce under the same part number, the manufacturer column decides which document applies.

Add a line or two of design conditions (input voltage, current, operating temperature), and the AI also checks each line against them.

Prompt template

Check every line of the BOM below against the manufacturer's datasheet.
- For each line, list the source document (title and revision) and the page number in a table.
- For passives, decode the ordering code and check rated voltage or power, tolerance and temperature characteristic.
- For any line that does not meet the design conditions, give the reason and the page.
- Mark any line you could not confirm.

Design conditions: (e.g. 5 V USB input, 1 A max, 0–50 °C operation)
(attach or paste the BOM)

What to check in the answer

  • Line count: does the table in the answer have as many lines as the BOM (nothing dropped)?
  • Documents: is each line backed by that manufacturer's document, with no other maker's document for the same part number mixed in?
  • Evidence pages: does every finding come with a page number? Open the original for any finding without one.
  • Firm verdicts: for a finding such as "does not meet the condition", read the sentence on the cited page yourself. In our test (web + PartsPlan), the AI made one such wrong call: it missed a sentence in a paragraph it had already retrieved.
  • Document revision: if a document's revision or date is old, compare it with the latest revision on the manufacturer's site.

What we saw in our test

We gave the same AI (Claude) a 14-line BOM in EasyEDA format, with 4 problems planted on purpose. Lines confirmed against the manufacturer's original datasheet: 14 with web + PartsPlan, 8 with web only. With web only, the manufacturer spec sheets for the 6 passive lines were never opened.

Both found all 4 planted problems. False flags: 1 with web + PartsPlan, 0 with web only. Time and AI cost were similar. Web + PartsPlan read the newer revision for three lines and web only for one (AO3400A); the cited values were the same (October 2026, one run).
