Connect a datasheet tool to Claude

Updated 2026-10-11

With PartsPlan connected, Claude can look up the page, table or graph in the manufacturer's datasheet when you ask about a part, and answer with the document and page number. Connecting takes a few clicks, and you can try it on the free plan.

What changes once it's connected

Without it, Claude answers from memory or from a web search. Values that sit in tables deep inside a datasheet, such as thermal resistance or isolation voltage, may not be found, or a similar but different value (a neighboring curve, another temperature, another revision) may be taken as the right one.

With it, Claude finds the page that holds the value in the manufacturer's original datasheet, reads it, and cites the document and page. With the page number, you can check the answer against the original right away.

We gave the same AI the same 8 design questions. Correct value and printed page: with PartsPlan MCP 8 / 8, web search only 6 / 8 (September 25–27, 2026; a small test, and we chose the 8 documents. A web search re-run on September 27 got 7 / 8 in 8.4 min, relying on third-party copies).

Connect on claude.ai (web and desktop app)

The fastest way is the button below. It opens Claude's add-connector window with PartsPlan's name and URL already filled in.

Connect to Claude ↗
  1. In the window that opens, click Add.
  2. Click Connect. The PartsPlan sign-in page opens; if you don't have an account, sign up there.
  3. Allow access for PartsPlan, and you're connected.
  4. You can choose per chat whether Claude may use it: check that PartsPlan is turned on under the + button in the message box.

You can also add it by hand: open the Connectors page in Claude (claude.ai/customize/connectors), choose Add custom connector, and enter PartsPlan as the name and the URL below.

https://worker.partsplanai.com/mcp

If "Connection problem — Reconnect" appears right after adding, you are not signed in yet; choose Reconnect. Choosing "Always allow" the first time each tool asks for permission stops the repeated prompts.

On Claude's Free plan you can add one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise plans, an organization Owner has to add it first.

Once you connect on claude.ai, the same account can use it in the Claude desktop app and the mobile apps as well.

Connect in Claude Code

If you are signed in to Claude Code with your claude.ai account, the PartsPlan connector you added on claude.ai is already available there, so there is nothing more to add.

To connect with an API key instead, sign in to PartsPlan and create a key under My MCP keys (your account email must be verified). The key is shown only once and starts with pk_live_.

Terminal
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user partsplan https://worker.partsplanai.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer pk_live_..."

With --scope user, PartsPlan is available in every folder where you open Claude Code. Without it, it only shows up in the folder where you ran the command.

Questions to try first

Include the part number, and ask for the page as well.

  • Find the maximum RDS(on) of AO3400A at VGS = 2.5 V in its datasheet, and give the document and page number.
  • In the LQFP48 pinout of STM32F103C8T6, which pin is PA1, and is it 5 V tolerant? Give the page numbers.
  • Check every line of the BOM below against the manufacturer's datasheet, and list the source document and page for each line. (paste your BOM)

When the answer includes a page number, say "look at that page and check again" in the same chat. The AI opens the image of that page.

How much is free

The free plan gives you 300 calls a month (up to 100 a day), and no card is required. BOM checks are free for up to 200 lines a day. For more, see the pricing page.
